Hello world. My name is Hesten, and I'm a homeschooled student based in the United States. I've always had a voracious appetite for learning and sharing knowledge, and that's what ultimately led me to create this educational website.
The primary catalyst for this project was my younger sister, who faces some learning challenges. I wanted to build a platform that could not only support her education but make learning more accessible and enjoyable for her. I drew inspiration from many places, but one website that particularly influenced me was IXL. I admired IXL's interactive approach and comprehensive curriculum, and I wanted to incorporate some of those elements into my own site.
However, I also wanted to create something unique and tailored to my sister's specific needs. I've spent countless hours researching different learning styles, educational strategies, and the latest developments in educational technology. I've tried to integrate those findings into the design and content of this site, ensuring that it's not just another generic learning platform but a personalized tool that can adapt and grow with its users.
My mission was to design and develop a website that would be specifically tailored to my sister's unique learning requirements, and I believe I have successfully achieved this goal by implementing several key adjustments.
First and foremost, I replaced the standard Arial font with OpenDyslexic, a typeface specifically designed to enhance readability for individuals with dyslexia. Its unique letterforms and spacing can help to reduce visual stress and improve reading accuracy and speed.
Furthermore, I carefully selected and applied a background and global color scheme that is visually soothing and reduces eye strain, promoting a more comfortable and focused browsing experience. Research has shown that certain color combinations can be particularly beneficial for people with dyslexia, and I've taken those findings into account.
In addition to these visual adjustments, I've also incorporated a variety of interactive elements and multimedia content to cater to different learning styles. For example, some lessons include audio recordings and videos, while others feature interactive quizzes and games. I've also made sure that the site is easy to navigate and that the content is presented in a clear and concise manner.
These changes were implemented with the explicit aim of creating a digital environment that fosters optimal learning and comprehension for everyone, regardless of their individual learning needs.
I'm always looking for ways to improve this site and make it more useful for learners of all ages and abilities. If you have any feedback, suggestions, or questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
